Trees are important. Crucial, really. They cleanse carbon dioxide from the air and create the oxygen we breathe. They provide shade and homes for other forms of life. They are aesthetically pleasing. Many provide food. They add value to a property, and serve as natural barriers. Trees provide the lumber that builds our infrastructure, and the paper on which the books and the news that inform us are printed. Trees: the more, the better.

Your trees are an investment. An old-growth ficus or oak is something money can’t buy. Doesn’t it seem crazy that some people leave their trees—which took decades to reach maturity, and which will hopefully be a feature in the yard for decades to come—in the wrong hands? All that time and care, only to be undone in an instant by someone ill-equipped for the task, and then on top of that, to pay for the privilege and then pay again to have it done properly, assuming the tree is even salvageable..

Pruning

You know how people need a haircut sometimes, like your millennial nephew? It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with him, it’s simply a matter of basic maintenance assuming it’s done routinely, like a 10,000-mile service for your car. Same logic applies in the garden: Neglect your pruning needs and bigger problems are sure to emerge. Certified Arborists live by the maxim that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Don’t let major issues creep up on you. Regular trimming and canopy-thinning keep tree maintenance manageable.

Preservation

While we encourage our clients to educate themselves and perform as much DIY-maintenance as possible, drastic measures are sometimes called for. You might have a chronically-underwatered tree that won’t respond to your efforts, or a co-dominant situation where two nearby branches are allowed to compress each other over time, resulting in a scenario where simple hand-pruning will no longer do the trick. Though it may come as a surprise to some, trees can grow quite tall (and heavy—gee, imagine that). Often the problem is out of reach, or encroaching on a structure or a neighboring property. Never attempt to negotiate such tasks without first consulting a Certified Arborist.

Removal

For a number of possible reasons, sometimes that tree just has to go. Dead or fallen trees, or trees posing risks to structures or people can become huge liabilities. They can also be unwieldy and weigh many tons. Heavy saws and a multi-man crew are often required to safely cut down, process, and haul such trees, but that’s no problem for a Certified Arborist, because we do all that and more, in-house. Let a Certified Arborist take the headache off your hands.
